The clover, or shamrock, is the quintessential symbol of St Patrick’s Day. This symbol is used the world over and even little school children will tell you that the clover stands for St Patrick’s Day.
The clover has been part of this holiday for so long that many people don’t realize how it came to be involved. St. Patrick, the Christian missionary to Ireland during the 4th century, used the clover in his teachings. He used the 3-leaf clover, a common plant in Ireland, to teach the people about the Holy Trinity. Over the years, the St Patrick’s Day clover become part of the folklore and grew to include the “luck of the Irish” and the illusive 4-leaf clover.
